Important Texas Law Update
Senate Bill 12 went into effect as of 9/1/2025. This bill requires written parental/guardian consent for physical and mental health services while at school. For Plano ISD, this written consent is to be completed during annual enrollment through Skyward. As the consents weren’t ready before this school year began, the forms can be found on Skyward as of 8/28/2025. Once you log in to Skyward, you’ll see a new tile titled “School Health-Related Services”. That will take you to a page that explains the consents, and has 2 drop down sections – one for physical health (clinic), and one for mental health (counseling). Please note – it is not an automatic opt-in. If these consents aren’t completed, when students come to the clinic, I will have to send them to the front office to call you. Once you’ve granted your consent, I can see them as usual. If you decline consent, a critical alert will be placed on your student’s profile stating they’re not to be seen in the clinic and/or counseling suite and should be sent to the front office to call you instead. The exception to this consent process is life-saving measures, of course. If your student comes to the clinic in significant distress, I will assess them.
